FAITH’S GARDEN

PROFILE

I want to work at the garden because: I think it’s a good fun opportunity for me to make money and work on life long skills

Two of my personal goals for working at the Dallas Youth Garden this summer are:

1. To gain work experience

2 practice teamwork and work on new skills

Two things I hope to learn from working at the Dallas Youth Garden are:

1. More about how to plant and garden

2. What it’s like having a job

I think my biggest challenge will be: keeping a good schedule with work, school, sports, extracurricular activities etc

My favorite vegetable or fruit is: I love pineapple and bell peppers

I hope to contribute this to the garden this year: a great attitude and awesome veggies

3. Another Project

Problem: What is the name of the problem you are trying solve I am trying to get rid of cucumber beetles in my garden.

Solution: What do you think the solution or possible solutions are to the problem I think using different tools and methods made specifically to get rid of them, and planting certain things can also help get rid of them “Enhance your garden by including repellent plants like broccoli, calendula, nasturtiums, radishes, rue, and tansy. These plants can deter cucumber beetles while contributing to the diversity of your garden”.

Test/Activity: What did you do to test the solution I used sticky pieces of paper that the bugs get stuck to and are attracted to. I put them in the middle of my garden next to my squash plants because according to a website on cucumber beetles they can significantly impact crops like cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, and melons. And are mainly attracted to them.

Results: What are your results my results were that there were a significant less amount of cucumber beetles in my garden and my squash plants started to grow vegetables faster.

Communication: Who did you communicate this to and what did you say
