I want to work at the garden because:
Two of my personal goals for working at the Dallas Youth Garden this summer are:
Learn how to keep plants alive
Learn how to grow vegetables
Two things I hope to learn from working at the Dallas Youth Garden are:

How to make a good garden for the best yield
I think my biggest challenge will be: keeping pests out
My favorite vegetable or fruit is: garlic

GARDEN LOG
May 1-3: getting ready to plant
May 4-10: planted first few rows (Flowers, Lettuce, Onions, Cabbage and Carrots)
May 11-17: planted next five rows (Dill, Butternut Squash, two rows of Zucchini and Pumpkins)
May 18-24: finished the last rows (Tomatoes, more Carrots, Sweet Peppers, more Tomatoes, more Onions and a mixed rows of garlic and leeks)
May 27-31 : pulled some weeds by hand then used a hand hoe to pull weeds
June 1-7: we putt down straw and I weeded and watered after
June 8-14: We put straw down and i weeded and watered
June 15-21: I weeded and watered and we put down straw
June 22-28: I weeded my carrots and dill and watered
July 1-12: I harvested half of my lettuce then watered and did some more weeding
July 14-21: I watered and harvested some zucchini then did some weeding
July 22-28: I watered and harvested more zucchini and did a lot of weeding
July-August 28-2: I watered and harvested my lettuce, green tomatoes and one onion then weeded quite a bit
August 2-9: I watered and weeded my plants and harvested some zucchini

GARDEN PROJECTS
1.Project One
Problem: how to prevent gopher
Answer(s) I found: by burying hardware cloth or wire mesh around gardens and individual plants to prevent gophers from tunneling underneath. Make sure the mesh extends at least a foot below the surface and a few inches above, or you can use strong smelling plants gophers dislike the smell of plants like lavender, rosemary, sage, and catmint. Euphorbia lathyris is known to be a natural repellent for gophers

2. Resipe
Name: zucchini bread
Vegetable Used: zucchini from the garden
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup oil
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1 cup grated zucchini
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Steps to Make it: preheat the oven to 325 and grease a loaf pan with butter or shorting and dust with flour then in a large bowl mix all the ingredients thoroughly
